EXCLUSIVE!!!! (fading echo)
I’ve been meaning to post this song up for a minute, but I was waiting for a picture. Fuck it. I’ve been bumping this one at least three times a day for the past two weeks. Dude is the real deal, and can’t wait to see how the next couple of months will play out for him.

Consider this the debut meet the DJ post. The idea is to feature a DJ, ask 5 quetions and then have a downloadable mix to accompany.
For the first installment we’re keeping it on the Bay Area tip with DJ Tap 10 of the soon to be famous Honor Roll crew. No need to preface anything, just check the links, read answers, and most importantly download the mixes! We got two different ones just to kick things off; one with acclaimed producer Trackademicks and another with Bay Area Vet Spank Pops. Both of which are very dope.

I was out in Richmond on Monday for an interview with Del on assignment for another magazine, but on a smoke break I filmed this joint for The Smoking Section.

First off, thanks to all the folks who have been coming over, and most importantly the Okayplayer staff for the front page link! I woke up today and was trying to think of ways to get you guys, the new readers, a reason to stick around and keep coming back. I’ve got something planned for later in the day, but in the meantime I’m just gonna stick with a name you can always trust, ?uestlove. This excerpt is a lengthy one, but for any true fan it’s a must read. The question came about as ?uest mentioned that when the group first came out, he didn’t feel that they would really last or thrive. He explains the setting during the Do You Want More!?!? era and how The Roots Movement (and Okayplayer really) came out of that.

Today’s ?usetlove post went straight to The Smoking Section, and if you need to know what it’s about, check the subject line. It’s by far the best exerpt from the interview, so yo, go read it.
Peace to the homies GOTTY, TC and LC. And of course P for the ill graphic.

It’s official folks, WE GOING FEDERAL IN 08! I just finished my first interview for XXL with The Roots new protege P.O.R.N. It was his first interview too, so history was made today. I’m gonna speak for the both of us and say it only goes up from here. Granted, I just got a foot in the door and he is likely to ink a deal with Jay-Z under the new Live Nation umbrella, but still, it’s all major. Anyway, here is what ?uest had to say about the man impossible find with a Google search.
On P.O.R.N.’s contributions to Rising Down
“At one point P.O.R.N. was killing everybody, he had like seven songs. We had to cut his shit down…I mean at one poin the was about to be what Ghostface was to Raekwon on Cuban Linx.”
Nuff said.

I just finished up a piece on The Roots for the next issue of Vapors, and was lucky enough to chop it up with ?uestlove for long enough to fill up the majority of a Maxell. It’s the second time I’ve interviewed him, and each time I hang up the phone in amazement. Dude just talks, you don’t even need to ask questions. He shared tons of stories and anecdotes in our latest conversation, and instead of giving them all away at once I’m gonna be sliding them in hopefully a couple times a week until the Rising Down drops on April 29th.
For the first installment I asked ?uest his favorite albums by two of my favorites, E-40 and Ghostface. (more…)
