I’m feelin the few songs I’ve heard from this dude, especially this “Day N Night” track. He’s on A-Trak’s Fools Gold label, so he’s got the right machine behind him to make some noise, and we’ll start to see that come May when his A Kid Named Cudi mixtape drops. First off, I want to say peace to the homegirl Nicole Ballin of Ballin PR. She has not only held me down for the past six years, but she is also the subject of this short Current TV segment. For some reason it’s not letting me post the video so you can watch it here. And if you’re a rapper looking for a publicist, HOLLER.

Another shout out to the homie Dale Coachman who runs Scheme magazine. Dude is always hustling, and nothing makes me happier than when good things happen to those who deserve it.

On the rap front, S.O.U.L Purpose just gained some points for this “WWE shit.” If you’re already lost, check here first. So does this mean that Peter Agoston does have his business straight?

Say it ain’t so…Mass Appeal dead?

If you haven’t copped Rising Down yet, get your mind right. If you have, tell me Porn ain’t the muthafucking truth!  His verse on “I Can’t Help It” is the hottest shit I’ve heard in a minute, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more kindred with Hov before.

Speaking of dope records Bun B’s II Trill is fucking ridiculous. I’ve got a sack of weed and box of Swishers for anyone with a trunk full of 16’s in the 916 area who wants to take a ride.

And lastly, be sure to check in daily with the Fist Fam. They got some shit for ya.

The Grouch

This is the first of many 5 Shot interviews to come. As the title indicates, we have The Grouch to kick things off in support of his latest album Show You The World. I reference this song “Artsy,” which I believe is the lead single, so you may want to check that (I personally like this remix better). Actually, if you check his Myspace page you can hear a couple of the other songs referenced in the interview, plus a bunch of other stuff so open another tab and listen to the music while you read the words from the man himself.

At the moment I can’t think of anyone hustling harder than Donny Goines right now. I swear every week he’s got something new to offer up, and there is a lot to be said of that (lazy rappers step it up). He’s proactive with his music, and the best part is he ain’t peddling bullshit either. Anyway, he hipped me to these two new joints, both of which you should check.

Fat Ray and Black Milk-The Set Up

No region is doing it as consistent as Detroit. They have the formula down, and while the rest of the Hip-Hop world would like you to believe rugged beats and rhymes aren’t enough, Detroit stays running the underground.  The Set Up, the latest collaboration between Fat Ray and Black Milk continues in the tradition, with Black continuing to shine on the beats and Fat Ray beating up on every track layed in front of him.  The three tracks below are just a taste of the dopeness, with key features from fellow Motor City heavyweights Phat Kat, Elzhi, and Guilty Simpson.

To date I’ve never posted something I didn’t completely stand behind, and The Set Up is no exception. Enjoy the tracks, and be on the look out next week for an interview with Fat Ray.

Fat Ray & Black Milk w/ Guilty Simpson and Scorpion-Bad Man

EXCLUSIVE!!!! (fading echo)

I’ve been meaning to post this song up for a minute, but I was waiting for a picture. Fuck it. I’ve been bumping this one at least three times a day for the past two weeks. Dude is the real deal, and can’t wait to see how the next couple of months will play out for him.

Consider this the debut meet the DJ post. The idea is to feature a DJ, ask 5 quetions and then have a downloadable mix to accompany.

For the first installment we’re keeping it on the Bay Area tip with DJ Tap 10 of the soon to be famous Honor Roll crew. No need to preface anything, just check the links, read answers, and most importantly download the mixes! We got two different ones just to kick things off; one with acclaimed producer Trackademicks and another with Bay Area Vet Spank Pops. Both of which are very dope.
